RULE CHANGES FOR 2008
1. Goat Tying: At the
finals, cannot compete on the same head twice. In no other association
at any level youth, college, or amateur can you compete on the same head
twice. At the TYRA finals you can have the same goat all 3 rounds which
I think is unfair. At the finals change the goat after 2 or 3 to make
the goat tying fair and even. Mary Jane Meyer
2. In courtesy events,
the points should move up not dissolve. John Atkinson
3. Change rule #2 on
Page 9 to read, A constestant is considered to be local when he or she
resides in the same or adjoining county where the rodeo is being held.
Mo Cox
4. In the Junior
Tiedown ONLY, if the contestant ropes the calf and the calf is down when
the contestant reaches it, then the contestant may go ahead and tie the
calf without having to “clear” the calf and will be given a 10 second
penalty. TYRA Board of Directors
5. GENERAL RULES Pg.
10
No trucks, tractors,
4-wheelers, gators, or other motorized vehicles or any other stationary
equipment in the arena during a rodeo while kids are competing. The
only exception to this rule is a rodeo may use panels in events such as
the calf roping to keep the cattle running straight for the kids. Russ
Herndon
6. BREAKAWAY pg 31:
Rule change:
(Rule 5) A 10x10 handkerchief or flag of contrasting color to the
rope must be attached to the end of the rope. The end of the
rope must be tied to the saddle horn.
EXAMPLE: A white rope must have a
flag of some other color than white.
A
colored rope can have a white flag.
NOTE: This rule change
was suggested by several of our judges to make the flag more visible and
easier to use. Russ Herndon
7. ARENA: PAGE 21
Rule 1 (last
sentence) Arena Director may drag less often if conditions warrant.
There needs to be
clarification of this statement. Several clubs interpret this as being
able to drag after 7-10 runs. These clubs were informed beforehand and
drug correctly. It should state:
A club may drag after
less frequently if the ground conditions become unsafe. (Example: after
2 or 3 runs) Exceptions to this rule would be for outdoor arenas, should
it rain or become too muddy to drag. Russ Herndon
8 POLES Pg 23
RULE CHANGE: Should a
contestant knock down a pole, they must go around where the base should
be at the stake.
There is not anything
in writing in the rules regarding this situation. Some judges say they
must ride around the base regardless of where the pole may be lying.
Other judges say as long as they go around the stake where the pole
should be standing, time is given. This should be stated in the rules
one way or the other, whichever way is decided.
Russ Herndon
9. PENALITIES: PAGE 27
Goat tying contestant
........ mounted.
ADD: A goat tyer is
considered dismounted as long as one foot is on the ground before their
horse hits the rope or goat. Russ Herndon
10. RIBBON ROPING
PAGE 37
Rule #4 under roper:
The boy must ...... the ribbon off.
ADD: A roper is
considered dismounted as long as one foot is on the ground when the
runner grabs the ribbon. Russ Herndon
11. Page 37, #4 under
runner:
Currently reads: Flag
judge will be positioned 75' from the front of the roping box.
Suggested change:
Move the line closer to the roping box. Somewhere between 25-50' from
the front of the box. It will be 50’ feet.
This was suggested by a
few judges because so many calves are being caught right on the line.
It is difficult for the runner to know which way to run. Also, this
makes it difficult to tell whether the runner had the ribbon before
crossing the line and having to tell them to go back across the line.
Russ Herndon
12. Roping Events: At
the finals, give average points on 2 head if 10 people do not catch 3.
In all other associations at all levels youth, college, and amateur, if
you are fastest on 2 you earn the money and the points. Mary Jane Meyer |
